This is the first issue of Rices Journal, and obviously it is its first editorial, so I wish to present the genesis of this academic project. Like any scientific journal, this publication aims to publish the scientific results of research, mainly in the socio-humanistic areas, but beyond this generic purpose, Rices Journal aims to be part of an ecosystem that can bring together through different strategies; first, the substantive functions of the university; and second, the organizations of the quadruple helix, a purpose not always possible in the Latin American context. In addition to this higher objective, Rices aims to expand the possibilities of researchers in Colombia and Latin America for the publication and dissemination of their scientific results. Thus, we intend to be a support for the career development of these researchers. At the same time, we are a space for discussion and debate on the approach to different social and human phenomena in our area of interest; understanding that today the phenomena of different areas of knowledge are approached from interdisciplinarity, and the boundaries of science are increasingly blurred. For all of the above, we assume our scope as our social mission; Thus, the Revista de Investigación, Ciencia, Estudios y Saberes (RICES) is an open access scientific publication focused on social and human sciences, aimed at the national and international community. Its objective is to publish research and review articles, written in Spanish and English, in the economic, political, pedagogical, naval, security and defense areas, and other socio-humanistic sciences. All this, we do under strict bioethical principles and seeking the highest standards of scientific quality.
